Creative visualization is real. It's a powerful force that works to
shape future outcomes. Anyone who doubts that the human brain is
impressionable and can be shaped and molded according to our thoughts should
consider this startling research conducted by the Harvard Medical School.

Harvard assembled a group of adult volunteers for this creative
visualization experiment. None of the participants could play the piano; it
was something that was completely foreign to each one of them. The field
of participants was split into 3 groups.

The first group was led to a room with a piano and were provided with
intensive piano practice sessions over a period of five days.

The second group were placed in the same kind of room, complete with an
identical piano. But this group had nothing to do with the piano; it
was merely part of the decor of the room.

And the third group was placed in an identical room with an identical
piano. Over the course of the five day period, they were told that they
had to just imagine that they were actually practicing playing on the
piano. In other words, they were to use creative visualization as their
only means of practice. No one went near the actual piano, but merely
visualized playing and practicing on it.

All three groups were placed in the exact same physical environment and
each group consisted of the same number of participants. The only
difference was in how they spent their time there.

What shocked a lot of people were the results of the brain scans
conducted at the conclusion of the experiment. The brain activity of the
second group -- those who merely sat in the room with the piano -- hadn't
changed at all. No surprise there.

Equally lacking in shock value was the fact that those who had actually
performed the piano practice exercises revealed structural changes in
the area of the brain related to the movement of the fingers.

But the astonishing revelation came about from the third group -- those
who used creative visualization to imagine themselves practicing the
piano. With this group, researchers saw changes in the structure of the
brain that was almost as distinguished as those who actually
participated in the intense piano training sessions.

What this Harvard study proved was that imagination and creative
visualization isn't an abstract theory but that it has a real and physical
basis inside the human brain. If you can imagine it... you truly can
create it through the power of creative visualization.
